Introduction from Chief Stitt

The purpose of this course is to educate students on how to perform a proper traffic stop and interact with law enforcement.  This is necessary in order to provide the students with a proper “how to” and “how things should go” concept of a traffic stop.    The videos provided will show how everything should go during a traffic stop if everything went as perfectly as possible.  Our goal is to minimize the negative encounters with police .   The interaction during a traffic stop should be tactful and respectful, and it should facilitate positive communication and understanding between the officers and the vehicle occupants.  Effective communication on the part of the officers should always present a feeling of professionalism and caring that makes the statement, “we are here to help,” with the outcome for the vehicle occupants being that they learn from their mistakes and will do better in the future to make safe and wise decisions while they are behind the wheel.
